DEFIBRILLATORS FOR SCHOOLS & OFFICES

Defibrillators in Liverpool & Across the UK

At Concept Hygiene, we provide a range of defibrillators that are available to purchase outright or through one of our managed service packages.

Making a real difference

Over 70,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest in the UK each year, with less than one in five receiving the time sensitive, treatment that is necessary to save their life. Here at Concept Hygiene, we are committed to helping reduce the number of these fatalities, through the supply of our Zoll Defibrillators.

Defibrillators are devices that restore a normal heartbeat by sending an electric pulse or shock to the heart. They are used to prevent or correct an arrhythmia, a heartbeat that is uneven or that is too slow or too fast. Defibrillators can also restore a heartbeat if the heart suddenly stops.

Our range of defibs are available from just £1.20 per day, requiring no capital outlay. All of our defibrillators are available to purchase outright or through one of our affordable managed service packages.

These packages include a wide range of additional benefits with ongoing support from our team, from installation right through to aftercare and product support.

Defibrillator FAQs – Your Questions Answered by Concept Hygiene

What is a defibrillator?

A defibrillator is a medical tool that is used when a person suffers a sudden cardiac arrest The equipment delivers an electric shock in order to restart a fibrillating heart. A defibrillator's job is to ‘restart’ the heart by delivering a burst of electric energy to it, re-establishing the electrical pulses and allowing the heart to beat again. Without a defibrillator, the chances of survival are as low as 5% for someone suffering an out of hospital cardiac arrest.

What is a PAD?

Public Access Defibrillators (PAD) are defibrillators that can be found in public areas. They are the same as regular defibrillators but are designed for public use and are often found in areas that are hard to reach by emergency services. These include remote towns and villages. You may have seen them in tourist areas, such as popular trails in the Lake District and other nature trails around the UK. Having a PAD installed in a remote area can save essential seconds when delivering emergency care to anybody who has suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.

How much does a defibrillator cost?

Defibrillators can vary in price. At Concept Hygiene, our defibrillator service packs start from as little as £439 per year, as we believe strongly these pieces of equipment should be as widely accessible and affordable as possible.

Do I or my staff need any special defibrillator training to use an AED?

The brilliance of a defibrillator is that no training is necessary. They are pieces of equipment that are specifically designed for use by anyone, and each of them feature guidance systems and easy to follow instructions which make them simple to use, even in high-stress situations. Many AEDs offer visual and verbal assistance to help you to administer effective care. Lit up images within the AED when the next step is ready to be performed helps the user quickly learn how the process works. AEDs also calculate their own electro-static shock and determine when a shock needs to be delivered, taking pressure off the person who is helping.

However, we do recognise that being trained and being familiar with the unit will instil more confidence in someone when faced with a situation where they would need to use the defibrillator. Although not compulsory, defib training can provide peace of mind to a nominated member of staff, such as a first aider and help may be administered more timely and effectively.

What is an AED?

AED stands for Automated External Defibrillator and is a medical device that cleverly analyses the patient’s heart rhythm, before deciding whether to administer a calculated shock to restart the heart. They are used on people who suffer a sudden cardiac arrest and are often found in public areas such as schools, offices, shopping centres and sports clubs. AEDs have been specially designed so that they can be used by anyone, designed to be easy and straightforward to use in high-stress situations. Audio and visual alerts on many AEDs also highlight which steps you need to follow and alert you when a shock is about to be delivered, meaning you are guided through every step of the process.

How are AEDs used?

AEDs are designed for easy use so that both medical professionals and members of the public can administer life saving care when needed. There’s no need to panic if you’ve never used an AED before, as they have been specifically designed to be easily deployable, with clearly written and verbal instructions to guide any user through the process. These instructions cover everything from CPR to fibrillation.

Can I get funding for a defibrillator?

It is possible to receive funding for a public access defibrillator. If you’re planning on installing one in your local area or near your business premises, it’s a good idea to visit The British Heart Foundation for more information on fundraising and how to apply.

What are the dangers of a defibrillator?

Defibrillators only deliver a shock when one is needed, so the dangers involved when using one are minimal. The chances of harm being caused to either the patient or the user is extremely low.

Am I legally required to have a defibrillator fitted on my premises?

Having a defibrillator fitted in your premises is optional, and as of yet, is not a legal requirement. However, it is highly recommended that you have one installed. Over 80% of people suffer from a sudden cardiac arrest in public places and out of hospital every year, and having one installed on your premises could increase the survival rate of someone suffering a cardiac arrest by a massive 60%.

If you still have questions you’d like answering about the installation of AEDs in your school, office, or other place of work then contact our team of professionals at Concept Hygiene today. We’ve been supplying and installing high quality defibrillators all around Liverpool and across the rest of the country for over seven years. Our experts can talk you through the whole process, as well as discuss our pricing options and defibrillator service packages.
